The tool converts units, estimates the geometric center of an evenly distributed load, calculates slope from rise and run, and screens the request against published BLANC-ELE capacity and mast data. It does not invent residual-capacity curves, attachment derating percentages or terrain safety factors.

Why Rated Forklift Capacity Is Not Always Enough

A nominal capacity class is only a starting point. Load center, lifting height, mast design, fork and attachment weight, route condition and the actual operating method can change the usable capacity. When the available data cannot support a reliable automatic answer, the result asks for engineering verification.

What Is Forklift Load Center?

Load center is the horizontal distance from the fork face to the load’s center of gravity. For an evenly distributed rectangular load, half of the load length is a useful estimate. An uneven or irregular load requires confirmation because its true center of gravity may not be at the geometric middle.

How Lift Height Affects Forklift Selection

A mast option being available does not prove that the forklift can lift every nominal load to that height. The selected mast and residual capacity must be confirmed together. V1 checks whether a requested height appears in the published configuration range and flags the rest for review.

Why Terrain Matters

Rough terrain, deep ruts and soft ground affect traction, stability, clearance and route planning. V1 records these conditions and identifies 4WD rough terrain applications, but it does not apply an unsupported capacity reduction or automatic tonnage increase.

How Slope Affects Forklift Selection

Grade percentage and angle describe geometry. Published maximum gradeability does not automatically mean a safe working slope under full load. Surface condition, direction of travel, load position, braking, entry and exit geometry and the exact machine configuration still require review.

How Attachments Can Affect Capacity

Side shifters, fork positioners, clamps, buckets and rotators add weight and can move the load center. Because BLANC-ELE does not yet have complete attachment derating data in the V1 matrix, attachment-heavy applications are not given a guaranteed capacity result.

What size rough terrain forklift do I need?

Start with the maximum load weight, real load dimensions, estimated or actual load center, lift height, terrain, slope and required attachment. The nominal capacity class is only the first screening step.

Is a 3 ton forklift enough for a 3 ton load?

A 3-ton load screens to the 3-ton nominal starting class, but that is not a final capacity confirmation. Usable capacity can change with load center, mast height, attachment and configuration.

What is forklift load center?

Why does load center affect forklift capacity?

A longer load center increases the overturning moment. Final capacity must be confirmed against the manufacturer’s data for the exact forklift, mast and attachment.

Can a rough terrain forklift work on slopes?

Attachments can add weight and change the effective load center. V1 does not use an invented derating percentage; it flags configurations that require manufacturer verification.

What is the difference between 3T, 3.5T, 5T and 7T classes?

They are nominal capacity classes with different chassis, mast, tyre and configuration references. The tool compares published classes but does not treat a higher nominal class as guaranteed suitable.

When is engineering verification required?

Examples include unknown or irregular load center, a load equal to a nominal rating, lift beyond published configurations, heavy attachments, very uneven or soft ground, unknown or high slopes and missing or conflicting BLANC-ELE data.
